Informational Webinar Interested in learning more about the Sister Chapters Program? Join a webinar at 7:00 am EST, 06 March hosted by Mohab Mangoud, Chair - Sister Chapter Program. Topic: IEEE ComSoc Sister Chapters Program 2025 (Introduction / Funding Application) - Webinar Time: Mar 6, 2025 12:00 PM (GMT) Description: Chapters are encouraged to establish a formal partnership (sisterhood) with a ComSoc chapter from a different country, and preferably from a different region, with different cultural and geographic backgrounds. It is recommended to include at least one local Student Branch Chapter in the collaboration whenever feasible. In case a chapter has no partner identified, a chapter can still apply for funding. A committee will try to assign or match a sister chapter. The funding is limited, and a committee will review all applications before allocating the funds. Eligibility Criteria and SCP5025 Rules Active chapter pairs meeting the minimum requirements may receive a grant up to US$1,800 (up to US$900 to each chapter). An additional bonus may be awarded to each chapter for engaging in additional activities subjected to the availability of funds. To be eligible for this chapter funding, it is expected to have a minimum of: - Organizing at least 1 joint technical activity with a speaker from each chapter. - Holding 1 joint student chapters activity, or formation of a new ComSoc Student Branch chapter. - Organizing 1 activity to promote membership. - Activities must be reported on a quarterly basis reporting to the Sister Chapter Program Chair and the Member Services Board director. - Submission of a final report about the project in December of each year. Bonus funding may be awarded to the year’s most outstanding Sister Chapters in the next year's funding. How to Apply for the Sister Chapter Program and Funding - Fill out the (https://connect.ieee.org/NzU2LUdQSC04OTkAAAGY7dBleZ_S9Htv2ID6c4YR2Su27-rbHYiIq02PmADTTnL2lsmu4BbMTgirEZRxrtCz8bqTOgY=). - Await confirmation from Sister Chapter Program Committee regarding the announcement of sister chapters pairs matching (by 11 April 2025) - Actively participate in Sister Chapter Program activities upon confirmation. End of Year Reporting and Use of Funds Chapters will provide a final report and then be expected to provide a renewal and new member report following the terminator campaign by 15 March each year. The report is meant to show the chapters improved activities, help weaker the chapters through partnership and mentoring (if applicable), motivated students and supported student branches. Outcomes should encourage the retention of members and with expectations of 10% new members in each participating chapter. Funding is for joint workshops, lectures and also projects between geographically diverse chapters. Refreshments may be claimed but should be under 25% of the total funding. In case required, small equipment and materials can be bought for the projects. The support is not for travel. Sister Chapters Program Committee - Ana Garcia Armada, Vice President, Member and Global Activities - Ricardo Veiga, ComSoc Member-at-Large, ComSoc Board of Governors (BoG) - Ranga Rao Venkatesha Prasad, ComSoc Member Services Director - Mohab Mangoud, Sister Chapter Program Chair Congratulations to our 2024 Sister Chapter Program winners! 10 outstanding ComSoc chapters that participated in the 2024 Sister Chapter Program were recognized for their outstanding partnerships and programs. Sister chapters form partnerships (sisterhood) with a ComSoc chapter from a different country, and preferably from a different region, with different cultural and geographic backgrounds. These chapters then work together on organizing joint technical activities with a speaker from each chapter, hold joint student chapters activity, or they may work together on the formation of a new ComSoc Student Branch chapter, all while promoting membership. 2024 Award Winning Chapters: - Chile + Ecuador - Delhi + Lebanon - Bahrain + Karachi - San Diego + Kerala - Bangalore + Spain - Trish Jaraicie, Staff, Director of Membership and Marketing Agenda: This webinar will be recorded and available for replay. Description: Lets discuss these 3 great articles with Tea/Coffee from IEEE Welcome to the March 17, 2025 edition of ACM TechNews, providing timely information for computer professionals three times a week. 1 in 4 U.S. Programming Jobs Vanish More than 25% of all computer programming jobs in the U.S. have disappeared in the past two years, with the occupation now ranking among the 10 hardest-hit of 420-plus jobs for which the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics provides data. There are fewer programmers today in the U.S. than at any point since 1980. At the same time, jobs for software developers have fallen just 0.3%, similar to the broader industry. and AI Is Changing the Way Computers Are Built AI is fueling the most fundamental change to computing since the early days of the Internet. Just as companies completely rebuilt their computer systems to accommodate the new commercial Internet in the 1990s, they are now rebuilding from the bottom up, wiring together up to 100,000 chips to create powerful AI systems. The industry is also looking at new ways to house, power, and cool these systems to keep them from over-heating. and Tim Berners-Lee Wants to Know: 'Who Does AI Work For?' At the South by Southwest conference, World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee, an ACM A.M. Turing Award laureate, raised the question of who AI works for. Even if AI models are reliable, accurate, and unbiased, there will be concerns about whether company or user interests are paramount. Said Berners-Lee, "I want AIs to work for me to make the choices that I want to make. I don't want an AI that's trying to sell me something." Best regards Agenda: 5:00 Intro 5:15 Discussing these great articles 7:00 Adjourn Bldg: Starbucks, 6 Flagstone Dr, Hudson, New Hampshire, United States, 03051 |

Building and managing hardware infrastructure in the Cloud plays a critical role in the development of AI training models. It provides the essential resources needed to handle the complexity, scale, and computational demands of these workloads. In this session, we will provide an overview on the hardware infrastructure that powers AI training models and the challenges that arise within the Cloud environment. The discussion will begin from building the infrastructure to generating the model, and finally, to the creation of business value. The complimentary series on AI will be recorded for on demand access. Please register (to attend or to get link to recorded version) ================ Overall series The IEEE AI Coalition has organized a series of live webinars centered around the various topics of AI. Each webinar is composed of expert speakers that may cover both the technical aspects of AI as well as socio-economic, ethical, legal, and other implications with AI. The IEEE AI Coalition is a collective of representatives from across IEEE who have come together with a shared purpose: to consolidate all of IEEE’s AI content into a cohesive platform and foster a robust network for AI-related resources. Our mission encompasses three key objectives: Classify and Index AI Work: We diligently organize and categorize AI-related work from across IEEE, ensuring that it is accessible in one centralized area. By doing so, we aim to bridge any gaps and facilitate seamless exploration of AI research, applications, and insights. Enhancing IEEE Services with AI: We explore how artificial intelligence can enhance the services provided by IEEE. Whether it’s optimizing processes, improving member experiences, or advancing technical publications, we strive to leverage AI effectively. Long-Term Vision: The AI Coalition is committed to developing a forward-thinking, long-term vision for the integration of AI within IEEE. We envision a future where AI-driven innovations empower our members, drive societal progress, and shape the technological landscape. Join us on this transformative journey as we unlock the potential of AI within IEEE and the world! Co-sponsored by: IEEE Future Tech Forum series on AI.
