Blockchain concepts have emerged to support many functions over time. One of these is crypto currency. Recently ATM type devices have been installed that will transform cash into crypto currency. Recently scam artists, often criminal gangs operating at scale on a global basis, have started to use these to obtain money from their 'marks'. We will look at the basic concept of blockchain and why this provides a secure form of transactions and data retention. The application to crypto currency, and related, but significantly different application to meme coins and other digital objects will be considered. Finally the abuse of these to support illegal transactions via "ATM" style kiosks will be discussed. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the federal agency responsible for regulating our networks and communications, including broadband, infrastructure, space, and media. In January 2025, Olivia Trusty was nominated by President Donald J. Trump to serve as FCC commissioner. After being confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Commissioner Trusty began her term in June 2025. Alongside her peers, Commissioner Trusty will be instrumental in advancing the resiliency of existing and future networks, the future of media, and efforts that ensure communications accessibility to all Americans, especially as Congress begins to engage in universal service reform. (https://smta.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=2030953) A new high-throughput additive manufacturing of nano and microelectronics utilizes direct assembly of nanoscale particles onto interposers, wafers, or boards. The technology enables the printing of inorganic conductors, semiconductors and dielectrics. It has been demonstrated for printing passive and active components including logic gates at the nano and microscale. Transistors with an on/off ratio greater than 10 6 have been demonstrated. This technology enables the fabrication of nanoelectronics and electronic components while reducing the cost by 10 to 100 times compared to conventional fabrication and can print 1000 times faster than ink-jet-based printing. Results show high-throughput printing of interconnects and circuit components at a scale equal to or less than 2 microns. Fully additively manufactured capacitors printed on silicon, sapphire, and polymer substrates will be presented. The results will show printed capacitors ranging down to 20 x 20 µm with capacitance of femto farads to nano farads. The results will also show additively printed MOSFET and logic gates such as NAND with high on/off ratios. A fully automated printing platform (a Fab-in-a-Box) was designed and built for printing microelectronics with minimum-sized features down to 300 nm for several advanced packaging applications and will be presented. Dear Colleagues,- A robust supply of quality teachers is necessary to ensure students have access to strong STEM instruction in K-12 schools. Unfortunately, the teacher pipeline shows worrisome signs about the supply of new teachers entering the workforce. At the same time, schools have increased demands for STEM instruction, resulting in acute staffing challenges in these fields. The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, founded in 2002, is a federally funded initiative designed to improve both the quantity and quality of STEM instructors, particularly in high-need school districts. On February 23, the Brown Center on Education Policy at Brookings will host a discussion on the state of the K-12 STEM teacher workforce and efforts to support the pipeline through the Robert Noyce Program. Professor Li Feng of Texas State University and principal investigator of a multi-year research project will present key findings from a new summary report on the Noyce program, examining its impact. Too often, students struggle to find real-world work experiences that are connected to their studies or interests. At the same time, workers who want to continue learning and gain new skills face limited and unclear points of entry back into education and training systems. These disconnects also hamper the ability of employers to find workers with the right skills. On February 26, Brookings will host an event to examine how education systems and labor market institutions can evolve to better support students and workers at every stage.
