November 13, 2025 -IEEE Reliability Society Town Hall on Innovating the Society with Dr. Jason Rupe
{AI TALKS WITH TEA/COFFEE #34} FUTURE OF DATACENTERS
https://www.brookings.edu/events/the-future-of-data-centers/ AI is being deployed across numerous sectors with promises to transform data processing, communications, and service delivery. Undergirding this growing adoption of AI algorithms and agents are state-of-the-art data centers that host thousands of file servers and networking equipment capable of automating key functions. As demand grows, these centers will be crucial for the digital economy, but there remain barriers in terms of their energy needs, workforce shortages, job impact, and overall cost. On November 13, the Center for Technology Innovation (CTI) at Brookings will host a webinar to discuss how we can address the mounting challenges posed by the construction and operation of data centers. Brookings Senior Fellows and CTI scholars Nicol Turner Lee and Darrell West will be joined by Kate Stoll, project director of the Center for Scientific Evidence in Public Issues at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Michael Blackhurst, executive director of the Electric Power Research Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Viewers can submit questions to speakers by emailing events@brookings.edu or on Twitter @BrookingsGov by using #FutureOfDataCenters. IEEE Reliability Society Town Hall on Innovating the Society with Dr. Jason Rupe
Your IEEE Reliability Society is holding a town hall meeting on innovating the society. Please join Dr. Jason Rupe, your current Reliability Society President, and Reliability Boston Chapter Chair, Dr. Dan Weidman, for updates on activities in the society and the Boston chapter, along with discussions with you about how the society can support chapters and members. We plan to present some brief updates from both, then turn it over to questions and ideas from you. The second of such townhalls this year, the Boston chapter has volunteered to host this event with the society, so their questions and ideas will be live. If you are able to attend this meeting remotely live, you will have a chance to submit questions and ideas via chat. The meeting will also be recorded, so you can catch up after if you like. Hopefully some ideas will resonate and maybe you find something you would like to contribute too. We look forward to your engagement in this event! Speaker(s): Dr. Jason Rupe, Dan Agenda: 6:00 pm Eastern Time Brief introductions and then presentations about Chapter status by Dan Weidman ("IEEE Boston Reliability Chapter Status") and Jason Rupe Open discussions Presentation by Dan Weidman "Thoughts on the Future of Fusion Energy and the Relevance of Reliability" 8:00 pm: expected end time .
